In spring 2023, after a lengthy conceptualisation phase, the go-ahead was given for the construction of the biomass heating plant on the Hutterer Böden not far from the middle station of the Höss mountain railway above Hinterstoder.
The two owners Georg Prieler and Florian Jansenberger set an extremely ambitious schedule with the aim of supplying heat for the hotel industry and other properties on the Höss in autumn 2023.
Heger Edelstahl was awarded the contract to supply the flue gas condensation system. What was initially difficult to imagine given the installation location - at 1300 metres above sea level at the end of the toll road with difficult transport and assembly conditions - actually became reality.
After perfect cooperation between all the companies involved, the biomass boiler and flue gas condensation system as well as the entire boiler house peripherals were actually put into operation at the end of November 2023.
The centrepiece of the flue gas condensation system is the useful heat extraction in the condenser to raise the return flow to the grid. Here, the flue gases are cooled to a few degrees via the mains return. At nominal load, the flue gas losses can be reduced by approx. 15%. To avoid the visible water vapour plume, the saturated flue gases are further cooled and dehumidified in another highly efficient heat exchanger - the de-airing air preheater (LUVO). The energy released in the process is used to preheat the deaerating air, which is mixed with the flue gas before it enters the chimney. Thanks to this process, no plume of water vapour is visible at the chimney outlet, even at temperatures below 0°C.
In addition to these thermal challenges, the flue gas condensation system also incorporates soundproofing measures for the deaerating air and flue gas to minimise noise emissions.
